PanFork WebThis is where you will find the forms, teaching helps and calendar. If you wish to choose a date for a church/youth/childrens/deacon outing or just a get away just call PanFork Baptist Encampment. 1-806-447-2627 Panfork Baptist EncampmentTo Be a Sponsor
There are 2 legal requirements in order to be an adult camp sponsor (at a camp where minor’s are present) in Texas. Here are the brief details.
A. Criminal or Sexual background checks?
The minimum required to be a sponsor is a sexual offender background check. A criminal background check is preferred, but is not required as long as the sponsor (applicant) is required to apply to be a sponsor for their church’s minor children.
This application must ask the sponsor applicant if they are a convicted felon. If the applicant informs the church that they are convicted felons on this application, then a criminal background check is required. (The criminal background check always includes a sexual background check, but it also costs money)
Even if the applicant is a convicted felon or a convicted sexual offender, this does not legally keep them from being a sponsor for your church’s minors. However, PanFork policy does not allow convicted sexual offenders to serve as sponsors for their minor campers while at the camp.
Whether it is a state or a national check is up to the church based upon their knowledge of where that person has lived and how long they have been church members. Churches may use the source of their choice to do checks.
Possible sources for doing background checks are:
1) Screen Now at www.ScreenNow.com recommended by Guide One Insurance. Discounts are given to Guide One customers.
2) Trak-1 at www.trak-1.com or call 1.800.600.8999
3) www.nonprofitrisk.org
4) Groups Church Volunteer Central (Group Publishing). Contact at info@churchvolunteercentral.com or 800.761.2095
5) www.publicdata.com (free and easy service)
B. Child Protection Course
We are asking that all churches show the Child Protection Video provided by the camp to potential sponsors before you arrive at camp. There is a short test and certificates provided on the video. If this is not possible, this video can be shown at camp after arrival. Since this brings about some complications with supervision for about an hour, please do all that you can to have as many certified completions as possible before arriving at PanFork.
